Gradlization of the Modern Human Skeleton
نویسنده
چکیده
P often think of the human skeleton as a symbol of death. In one sense this is true: Bone resists decomposition better than flesh, so it has a greater chance of being preserved after death. However, bone is also a living tissue. The skeleton is remarkably dynamic during life—even in adults—and it responds to metabolic needs and mechanical requirements. When muscles grow stronger, the underlying bone adapts by changing its physical shape to bear the increased stress. Likewise, atrophied muscles lead to weakened bones. In this way, our bones tell the story of our lives long after we're gone.

The early Upper Paleolithic human skeleton from the Abrigo do Lagar Velho (Portugal) and modern human emergence in Iberia.
The discovery of an early Upper Paleolithic human burial at the Abrigo do Lagar Velho, Portugal, has provided evidence of early modern humans from southern Iberia. The remains, the largely complete skeleton of a approximately 4-year-old child buried with pierced shell and red ochre, is dated to ca. 24,500 years B.P. The cranium, mandible, dentition, and postcrania present a mosaic of European e...
متن کاملTraditional and Modern Uses of Natural Honey in Human Diseases: A Review
Honey is a by-product of flower nectar and the upper aero-digestive tract of the honey bee, which is concentrated through a dehydration process inside the bee hive. Honey has a very complex chemical composition that varies depending on the botanical source. It has been used both as food and medicine since ancient times. Human use of honey is traced to some 8000 years ago as depicted by Stone ...
متن کاملGrowth patterns in the modern human skeleton.
This study investigates cross sectional growth patterns in the human skeleton using a recent skeletal sample of known age and sex. Measurements were selected to reflect different functional regions of the cranium, mandible and post cranial skeleton, and growth is evaluated using a single phase Gompertz curve. Different parts of the skeleton vary in the proportion of adult size attained at birth...
متن کاملParallel Genetic Algorithm Using Algorithmic Skeleton
Algorithmic skeleton has received attention as an efficient method of parallel programming in recent years. Using the method, the programmer can implement parallel programs easily. In this study, a set of efficient algorithmic skeletons is introduced for use in implementing parallel genetic algorithm (PGA).A performance modelis derived for each skeleton that makes the comparison of skeletons po...
متن کاملRecent origin of low trabecular bone density in modern humans.
Humans are unique, compared with our closest living relatives (chimpanzees) and early fossil hominins, in having an enlarged body size and lower limb joint surfaces in combination with a relatively gracile skeleton (i.e., lower bone mass for our body size). Some analyses have observed that in at least a few anatomical regions modern humans today appear to have relatively low trabecular density,...
